Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill are three anchor cities of The Research Triangle, a region in Piedmont in the state of North Carolina, known as the location of big universities, research facilities and high-technology corporations. This region actually comprises eight counties and carries the official name Raleigh, Durham, Cary CSA.

Also simply called as The Triangle, the three points in the popular name of the region refers to Raleigh (in Wake County), Durham (in Durham County) and Chapel Hill (in Orange County), which collectively host the Research Triangle Park, the largest concentration of these research facilities in North Carolina.

All three cities each played host to a notable research facility in the United States:  the University Of North Carolina in Chapel Hill (the oldest state-financed university in the USA), the Duke University in Durham and the North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

The density of intellectually-inclined residents and ultra-modern facilities make the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area a melting pot for students pursuing higher education especially in the field of technology and sciences, as well as businesses that take advantage of the highly educated workforce and the IT support available in The Triangle.

The technology-driven workforce are employed by Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco Systems, Credit Suisse Group, DuPont, Fidelity Investments, IBM, Nortel Networks, Sony Ericsson, Verizon, the EPA and GE, among many others.
